UAE Urges Drivers to Incorporate Fire Safety into Car Insurance Plans Due to Increasing Temperatures

UAE Authorities Advocate Including Fire Protection in Car Insurance Amid Rising Summer Temperatures

UAE Urges Drivers As temperatures soar during the summer months in the UAE, motorists are strongly advised to ensure fire protection is included in their car insurance policies. While basic third-party liability (TPL) coverage is mandatory and cheaper, it only covers damages to third-party vehicles and medical expenses, excluding natural disasters, fire, and other non-traffic incidents. Comprehensive insurance, on the other hand, offers extensive coverage including theft, vehicle loss, fire, and vandalism, along with optional add-ons like engine and accessories coverage.

Neeraj Gupta, CEO of Policybazaar.ae, emphasized the importance of comprehensive coverage for peace of mind, noting that upgrading from TPL typically costs between Dh700 to Dh800 for sedans or SUVs.

Highlighting the heightened risk of vehicle fires in summer, Dubai Police cautioned against leaving flammable items such as perfumes, mobile chargers, and e-cigarettes inside vehicles. They also announced free car inspection services until August’s end to promote vehicle safety.

Road safety experts stressed the need for regular vehicle maintenance to prevent fires, advising checks for damaged wiring, abnormal fuel or oil levels, and overheating signs like burning smells or smoke. They also warned about faulty electrical wiring and urged prompt replacement of worn-out hoses.

According to RoadSafety UAE, poor maintenance causes 75% of vehicle fires, with mechanical or electrical failures contributing significantly. The group highlighted that while collisions account for only 3% of fires, they result in 57% of fire-related deaths.

Following recent heavy rains and floods in April, which exposed the limitations of TPL insurance, there has been a significant surge in demand for comprehensive insurance. Insurance companies reported a 100% increase in comprehensive policy uptake as car owners sought broader coverage against unforeseen damages.

Overall, ensuring comprehensive insurance coverage is crucial for UAE motorists looking to safeguard their vehicles against the diverse risks posed by extreme weather conditions and everyday hazards.
