Well it’s been a long time coming
Samsung Galaxy phones set to gain satellite connectivity with Android 15 and One UI 7 Samsung Galaxy phones are poised to receive satellite connectivity with the upcoming Android 15 and One UI 7 updates, following Apple’s introduction of this feature in the iPhone 14 in September 2022. Code analysis by Android Authority reveals references to “satellite mode” and “emergency texts via satellite” within Samsung’s Emergency SOS, Messages, and Phone apps, hinting at imminent capabilities.
While specific launch dates and supported device models remain undisclosed, indications suggest an impending rollout. Android 15 is slated for release later this year, potentially coinciding with the activation of these features. Samsung’s One UI 7, based on Google’s software, will follow with its own timeline.
Samsung’s commitment to innovation and competition with Apple is evident, as rumors of satellite connectivity for recent Galaxy flagship models, including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6, have circulated without materializing. Despite promises from Samsung’s Park Yong-in for two-way satellite connectivity by 2024, implementation has been delayed.
Speculation surrounding Android 15 has included persistent rumors of satellite messaging capabilities, now in the developer beta phase. A standout feature may include satellite messaging across all apps, potentially surpassing Apple’s limited emergency-focused offering.
While satellite options have appeared on Google Pixel phones without functionality, the trajectory suggests forthcoming satellite messaging capabilities for Android devices, including Samsung Galaxy phones, in the coming months.
