Apple iPhone 16 to Launch on Schedule Without AI Feature, Says Mark Gurman
Gurman Confirms iPhone 16 Release On Schedule, Unaffected by Apple Intelligence Delay Mark Gurman of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter has confirmed that Apple will launch the iPhone 16 in September as planned. However, the new devices will arrive without the highly anticipated feature, Apple Intelligence. This advanced AI technology is expected to be released with a subsequent software update, roughly a month later.

Gurman also provided insights into the current state of Apple Intelligence, available on the iOS 18.1 beta. According to him, the technology still has significant room for improvement and currently resembles an enhanced version of Siri rather than the groundbreaking innovation Apple has promised.
Here’s a rundown of the features currently available with Apple Intelligence:
- Messages App: Offers slightly improved suggested replies, an enhancement of the existing reply suggestion feature.
- Mail App: Provides longer reply suggestions compared to previous versions.
- Reduce Interruptions Focus Mode: An advanced version of Do Not Disturb that filters notifications, allowing only urgent messages and emails to pass through.
- Reader Mode in Safari: Summarizes web pages and articles into a single paragraph.
- Writing Tools: Enhance text by making it more professional or friendly, and provide proofreading capabilities.
- Call Recording and Transcription: Records calls and transcribes them automatically, with the full transcription available after the call ends.
Gurman describes these features as “niceties, not necessities,” suggesting that they might not be compelling enough for current iPhone 14 Pro users to upgrade to the iPhone 16. Despite this, he predicts that Apple’s marketing and promotional efforts will drive excitement and sales for the new model.
The iPhone 16 lineup, including all four models, is expected to feature Apple Intelligence, along with the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. Apple’s AI initiative aims to compete with products like Google Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Microsoft’s Copilot. To meet its ambitious goals, Apple will need to significantly advance its AI capabilities.
