Google’s AlphaProof and AlphaGeometry 2 Establish New Milestones in AI Mathematics
Alphabet’s Google has unveiled two cutting-edge AI systems, AlphaProof and AlphaGeometry 2, which have demonstrated remarkable advancements in abstract mathematics by solving four out of six problems at the 2024 International Math Olympiad.
DeepMind, Google’s AI division, reported that these new models outperformed previous AI systems in tackling complex mathematical challenges. AlphaProof, a fusion of the Gemini language model and the AlphaZero system, excelled by solving three problems, including the most difficult one. Meanwhile, AlphaGeometry 2 addressed the remaining problem.
This achievement represents the highest performance by an AI in the competition’s history, with some solutions achieved in minutes and others over a span of up to three days. In parallel, Microsoft-backed OpenAI is working on a similar project called ‘Strawberry,’ which has raised concerns among its staff regarding its potential implications for humanity.
