Last month, Blackmagic Design, renowned for its cinema cameras, introduced an Android app capable of recording H.264 and H.265 video, designed to seamlessly integrate with DaVinci Resolve video editing software and associated cloud services. Initially compatible only with select Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones, version 1.0 provided a limited rollout.

Now, Blackmagic is rolling out version 1.1 of the Blackmagic Camera app, significantly expanding its compatibility to include a broader range of devices. The updated app now supports the Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a, Samsung Galaxy S21 and S22 series, OnePlus 11 and 12 series, and Xiaomi 13 and 14 series.

  • HDMI Monitoring: Allows for real-time monitoring via HDMI output.
  • 3D LUTs: Enables recording and monitoring with customizable 3D lookup tables.
  • Pull Focus Transition Controls: Offers precise control over focus transitions.
  • Improved Blackmagic Cloud Organization: Enhances organization and management of media in Blackmagic Cloud.
  • Login Account Integration: Enables seamless login to Blackmagic Cloud directly from the app.
  • Dim Screen Option: Reduces screen brightness during recording.
  • Optional Image Noise Reduction and Sharpening: Provides customizable image enhancement options.
  • Audio Level Pop-Up: Displays audio levels during recording.
  • Japanese Translations: Adds support for Japanese language.
  • Proxy File Generation Control: Option to disable proxy file generation during recording.
  • Save Clips to External Storage: Allows saving recorded clips to any location, including external storage.
  • General Performance Improvements: Enhances overall app performance and stability.

The Blackmagic Camera app is available for free download from the Google Play Store. Additionally, DaVinci Resolve, the accompanying video editing software, is also available for free, with a more advanced version priced at $295.
